Hege received lots of good feedback as a young jazz vocalist, but it is now, many years
later that she is finally making her own jazz album. It contains standard songs and a
tribute to the journalist Randi Hultin, composed by Phil Woods. (Randi’s name is written
with an ‘i’, however Phil Woods always used a ‘y’, making it Randy.)
Randi was very well known throughout the world as a journalist in the jazz industry. Hege and Randi
became good friends and Randi opened up stages and collaborations for Hege outside her own home county Østfold, south-east Norway. This friendship unfortunately never resulted in any recording. Life took a new serious direction for both of them. Randi died in March, 2000 and Hege got the urge to write and release her own music, singing in Norwegian a little outside the jazz genre.
Now Hege is back to jazz, which has always been what comes naturally to her. Per Mathisen and Hege have worked together before with Olga Konkova. Hege met the Mathisen brothers again in Greece last year at the Kardamili International Jazz Festival, where they both played. Hege heard the brothers together for the first time and fell head over heels for the sound, the atmosphere and the chemistry.
She asked them on a sunbed the day after the concert if they would like to participate on her new jazz album!
Here we are, the recording is done and it contains ten songs, of which eight are
standards, an original bossa, and Randi’s song. The musicians in this trio really get the
best out of each other, with silky smooth arrangements, wonderful timing and beautiful
melodies. We all sincerely hope that you will enjoy this album!
