Haftor Medbøe

New CD out very soon with Medbøe /Eriksen / Halle – The Space Between.

Haftor Medbøe, Espen Eriksen and Gunnar Halle first met and shared a stage in 2013 at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, playing in an extended line-up with drums and bass. The creative chemistry between the three musicians was instant and a plan was made to work together as a trio. The resulting compositions draw on Medbøe’s Scandinavian roots, the culture of his adopted Scotland and a diverse range of other historical and contemporary influences. The project was premiered in July 2015, again at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, to a sell-out audience ahead of two days recording at the legendary Castlesound Studios in the historic Scottish village of Pencaitland. The sparseness provided by the trio setting has afforded the musicians ample space in which to explore highly detailed rhythmic and dynamic interplay while extending the limits of their traditional roles within the ensemble.
